Two lithium battery makers pull out a plug on American production plans

Two companies trying to set up Gigawatt scale Lithium battery factories have canceled their plans for American production. Kore Power confirmed to Local news that it left his 12-GWH factory plan in Buckeye, Arizona and Freyr unveiled It would sell his ESS production site in Georgia.

Kore Power first announced his production plans in Arizona in 2021. The goal was to hire 3,000 people at the 1 million FT2 Site to make both NMC and LFP battery cells for the EV and ESS markets. The company has our intellectual property but makes its batteries through a Chinese contract manufacturer. After receiving investments from Siemens and Quanta Services, KORE was planning to break the land on the Arizona site in 2023. The construction has never started, and now the Company is running To find an already built site to enter.

Freyr’s born in Norwegian chose a site in Coweta County, Georgia, to set up the production of lithium battery cells and worked on a loan from the Energy Department for the $ 1.7 billion project. The company took a surprising step at the end of 2024 and bought the Panel Assembly activities from Trina Solar in Texas. Freyr now focuses primarily on the production of solar panels and even drops “battery” from the company name. Freyr said that it has been concluded a final agreement to sell the Georgia site to an unknown party for $ 50 million, which must be completed on February 15, 2024.
