The second and final phase of the Solar for School program Van Ireland has been opened for applications for all eligible schools nationwide since November 2024.

Up to now, according to the government, the regulation has had considerable importance, which reported that a total of 757 schools have been approved for financing in this phase so far.

Solar for Schools was originally launched in November 2023, and since then more than 3,290 schools have been approved to make progress for the installation of solar panels. According to the government, more than 1,000 installations have been completed so far.

The deadline for applications for the second phase of the program has been expanded until Friday 7 March.

According to the program, schools 6 kW will receive solar energy mounted on the roof.

“This program offers schools the opportunity to reduce their CO2 emissions and energy costs, as well as providing daily data to schools and students about their consumption,” said the Minister of Education of Ireland, Helen Mcentee. “Communities up and down through the country have come to see solar panels on roofs from school, a sign of the strong recording of the Solar for School program.”

She said that she would “strongly encourage” all schools to sign up for the extensive deadline.

Applicants can apply for the scheme with the help of the online tool of the Department of Education, School Hub.

Solar for Schools is fully funded by the Ireland’s Climate Action Fund. The first phase of the scheme was a pilot aimed at schools in selected provinces in Ireland. Shortly before the second phase was opened, the government announced that it expanded the regulation nationally.
