A fire at a battery energy storage system (BESS) in the substantiation of the Operating Program (BESS) close to London in Thurrock, Essex, was safely brought under control on 20 February.

Firefighters from Orsett, Corringham and Basildon were called to the fire in Oost -Tilbury on 19 February. They used specialized equipment, including thermal image cameras and drones, to check the temperature and manage the fire in a controlled manner, and to prevent water transfer. The crews transferred the scene to Site Management the next day.

“In the past 24 hours, firefighters have tirelessly worked to contain the fire, to prevent further risks and to guarantee the safety of the site and the environment,” said area manager than Partridge. He noted that the scaleback was facilitated by the safety measures that were already implemented on the site.
