Health and Wellness Club operator The Bannatyne Group has installed solar panels on the roofs of some of his health clubs, hotels and spas, after a collaboration with Shawton Energy.

Eight locations are equipped with solar panels, including hotels and spas in Bury St. Edmunds, Colchester Kingsford Park, Cookridge Hall in Leeds, Norwich West, Weybridge, Wildmoor and the Bannatyne Group’s head office in Darlington.

According to the Bannatyne group, the installations, which consist of 967 panels and 11 inverters, have already delivered considerable energy saving to the group. Since their completion, every site has reportedly achieved energy saving up to 25%.

The project is funded through a customized Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Shawton Energy. The Bannatyne group did not set in advance in the installations, which were financed instead by Shawton Energy. The Bannatyne group now buys the energy generated from the installations at a fixed, cheap price, which protects the company against future energy price fluctuations.

Duncan Bannatyne, Chief Executive and chairman of the Bannatyne Group, said: “As a company we are committed to reduce our CO2 footprint and to be paramount in the field of environmental responsibility in our industry. Solar Power Generation is a win-win solution for us and fits perfectly with our sustainability objectives, while they are also given certainty about the costs of our energy, which is one of our greatest costs. “

Jamie Shaw, CEO of Shawton Energy, added: “The Bannatyne group has shown real leadership in embracing renewable energy, and we are proud to have delivered a solution that matches their financial and environmental goals. Our tailor -made approach has ensured minimal disruption of their activities and at the same time deliver considerable cost savings and carbon reductions. “

The Bannatyne group is far from the first commercial operation that tries to decipher the costs and to lower it through solar energy, or even the first health and wellness company that is considering this option.

In November last year, the British push developer Push Power Centrica and Zonne -PV -Power completed the installation of Zonne -PV systems at ten David Lloyd Leisure Clubs in the United Kingdom. The installations varied in size, from an installation of 300 kWp, 708 panel in Manchester to an installation of 631 KWP, 1485 panel in Cambridge.

The Chinese manufacturer Ja Solar offered panels for all sites, where SolarEdge delivers the inverter and optimiser equipment. David Lloyd Leisure also noted that these installations will be followed by further solar developments at other locations in the coming weeks and months.
