Neso publishes T-1 capacity market results

The National Energy System Operator (Neso) has released its provisional auction results for the one-year capacity auction (T-1).

The T-1 capacity auction for delivery in 2025/2026 was closed on 5 March 2025 at 10.00 am, resulting in 7,936,289 MW to be obtained in 246 capacity market units (CMUs). The clearing price was set at £ 20.00/kW/year.

A total of 725.813 MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity was assigned in the auction, over 78 cmus, which made 9.15% of the total capacity awarded. In addition, eight units with a total of 127,856 MW capacity have excited the market.

Econergies Swangate Bess was awarded 12,543 MW capacity in the auction respectively, while Engie protected the capacity for the Broxburn and Cathkin Energy storage projects for 12,896mw and 12,826mw respectively.

Various projects of Gresham House Energy Storage were shown in the auction, including the Tynemouth Bess, Bloxwich Bess, Grendon Project and Nevendon Bess, for a total of 28.03 MW.

RWE Renewables UK Secure capacity for a total of 10.144 MW for a total of 10.144 MW, while the Thurrock storage project of Statera insured a total of 80.72 MW over three CMUs. Zeonbe was also one of the biggest winners in the auction and provided 54,300 MW capacity for the Blackhillock Bess and a total of 81.225 MW capacity for the Kilmarnock South project over six cmus.

1.5 MW of the granted CMUs in the currency sector was assigned to BESS-Activa with a duration of 0.5 hours, 7.116 MW was assigned to 1.5 hours of assets, 38.752 MW was assigned to 1-hour Duur Audiva, 6.794MW was assigned to 2-hour ACTIVA and 1033mw.

A total of 26.083 MW of solar capacity was awarded, over 19 cmus, which made a total of 0.33% of the capacity awarded. Conrad secured 2.2 MW capacity for the LARport Solar project, while EDF Energy Renewables 5.4 MW of capacity for the Beechgreen Energy Farm and 2,680 MW secured for the Porth Wen Solar Project.

In the meantime, NextEnergy Solar 2.8 MW assured capacity over three CMUs and NextPower UK insured 4.4 MW capacity over four cmus.
