The Pila Energy Home battery is a portable, tenant-friendly back-up-Power battery with sufficient energy storage to provide a refrigerator for a maximum of three days.
The first plug-and-play, home battery for supplying automatic backup power throughout the house was unveiled on SXSW 2025 by Pila Energy.
Pila Energy said that the Mesh -home battery offers seamless, integrated back -up power for both tenants and homeowners. The plug-and-play backup battery automatically feeds household appliances and rooms during power failure without the house being wired or extended cords have to be used. In contrast to gas generators, Pila Energy said that the battery is quiet, maintenance -free and works indoors.
The battery has a modular design and can be installed next to the devices that are intended to make a backup.
Pila’s founder Cole Ashman, a former Tesla And SPAN Engineer, grew up in New Orleans and remembers how entire neighborhoods were in the dark for days when Hurricane Katrina struck.
Twenty years later, Ashman says that he has devoted his career to helping individuals to build resilience at home at home, and the mission of Pila about preventing what he saw during Hurricane Katrina.
“The destruction was unimaginable,” says Ashman in the mission statement of the company, “only one image burned in my memory: thousands of discarded refrigerators raised on sidewalks in the city.” In the mission of Pila, the company mentions the discarded refrigerators that resulted from Katrina a ‘grim symbol of the fragile energy system of the nation’.
“Nowadays malfunctions are more common, because our aging schedule is struggling to keep track of the increasing intensity of natural disasters,” says Ashman. “Pila wants to change that – to bring smart, safe peace of mind within reach for every house and apartment.”

Each battery stores 1.6 kWh. With Pila’s expansion package, users can connect a maximum of 1,200 W of solar energy and store 3.2 kWh, which is usually enough to perform a fridge, charging telephones and laptops for a day or two. According to Pila Energy, the smart mesh technology of the battery can seamlessly connect multiple batteries throughout the house, coordinate to store solar energy and optimize the stored energy for failure protection.
The battery can charge during a malfunction if it is linked to a plug-in solar panel. Just like Wi-Fi Mesh Systems, Pila said that the modular batteries can work together in the background to optimize the energy consumption of the house.
Although the battery cannot deliver as much power as a traditional generator system, the battery is a fraction of the costs – starting at $ 999 – so that users can offer selective back -up power without in advance.
With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile connections on board, Pila Energy said that the app from the battery offers real-time insights into the use of home energy consumption, 24/7 device monitoring and warnings for power outages when the user is away from home.
Pila Energy received financing from Refactor Capital, Climate Capital, Jetstream, Looking Glass and R7 partners at an early stage.
The complete set of specifications of the mesh -home battery are available on Pila’s website.
