Developer of Renewable Energie Baywa.Re has submitted a planning application for a proposed 500 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Scotland.
The proposed Redshaw Bess is planned to lie around 3 km southeast of Douglas in the South Lanarkshire region in Scotland. The proposed site is located next to the M74 -Velweg, and the country is currently owned by Douglas and Angus Estate and is mainly used for grazing sheep. This site is located next to another planned large electricity infrastructure project; Scottish Power Transmission has plans to develop a 132kV under station in the neighborhood to support the growth of Bess and other infrastructure for renewable energy in the area.
If approved, up to 400 Bess containers of approximately 6 mx 2.5 mx 3m are built on the site, in addition to biodiversity improvements such as newly created native forests, indigenous wide -leaf trees and areas for peat recovery. Baywa.Re also proposes to create a community Benefit Fund of £ 50,000 a year during the entire life of the project, which will be used to support community projects in the area.
The public is invited to submit their comments about the planning application to the Energy Constent unit of the Scottish Government until April 18, 2025. Baywa.Re has not yet explained when it expects a decision about the planning application to be made, or if the project could start construction if approved.
Large movements for Baywa.re
At the last end of last year, Baywa.Re announced that it had received a building permit for his first Irish solar project.
