Trinasolar announced that it has developed an “industrial standard” solar panel that reaches 800 W. The 3.1 m2 Module using 210 × 105 mm perovskiet/silicon tandem solar cells reached 808 W and was certified by inspection body TÜV Süd. The rectangular cell (essentially a half-sliced G12-Wafer) lay silicon and perovskites to exceed conventional efficiency assessments.

“This is a monumental breakthrough for Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Modules and an important milestone in PV technology,” said Gao Jifan, chairman and CEO of Trinasolar.

Since conventional silicon -based solar cell efficiency is approaching its theoretical limit, very efficient tandem cells have attracted increasing attention. Perovskite tandem technology can exceed these restrictions, with theoretical efficiency up to 43%. As a transforming solution for the next generation of solar energy, perovskiet/silicon tandem technology is ready to become the new industrial stand, a historical shift of silicon-based solar cells to tandem solar cells and herald in a new era of sustainable development.

Trinasolar has invested in Perovskite Tandem Cell R&D for more than 10 years. In collaboration with universities, including Nanjing University, the province of Jiangsu and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the company led national research projects in this domain. The company has submitted 331 patents with regard to tandem technology and has improved conversion -efficiency through progress in perovskiet bulk doping, interface engineering and composite layer design. This work has laid the foundation for the industrialization of perovskiet/silicon dental modules.
