Spacelis, a starting company based in Ankara, Turkey, develops lightweight, rollable space quality perovskiet-organic tandem solar technology for space travel, field communication and unmanned system applications.

“Spacelis’ own technology makes up to 50% weight reduction possible compared to conventional space quality solar modules made of organic and organic-an organic hybrid semiconductant materials, with lower production and launching costs,” Guler Kocak, founder of Spacelis and CEO, told, told PV Magazine, Add to that such panels are “very adaptable” for space applications and can be “rolled, folded or bent without jeopardizing.

The Perovskiet-organic tandem devices in development are aimed at a power-weight ratio of 10 kW/kg, ultraviolet (UV) resistance of more than 350 Nm and a weight of 60-75 g/m² for the entire module, including inkhadowing.

The design includes a High-Barrier Incaping Technology and innovative polymer substrate to offer self-cleaning, dust-repellent surfaces, according to Kocak.

“The company was officially founded in 2023 in Turkey,” said Kocak. The technology of the company builds on its doctoral work at Flinders University in Australia, which was inspired by research into high efficiency and a long lifespan of non-filled Acceptor-based on. “My PhD student investigated these non-filled up-with-materials and recognized their viability as materials that must be studied for scalable commercial product candidates, especially in combination with perovskite solar cells.”

The company is currently the completion of prototypes, together with simultaneous R&D projects, to make the manufacture of space prototypes possible next year, aimed at testing in-orbit in 2027.

The primary markets are Europe, Turkey and the United States in the Space and Defense industry. For example, offering portable energy solutions for space travel, field communication and unmanned systems.

“Spacelis is preparing for riser capital financing, with an immediate focus on collection of $ 1 million for prototype development this year, and $ 4 million for Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy, aimed at investors in the next generation of technical sectorsche,” spacer, defense and deep.

To date, the company has protected the financing of the scientific and technological research council of Turkey (Tübыtak) and a subsidy from the Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (Diana) Incubator in 2024. It also participated in Startup, an Early STK and the VS.

Last year Kocak presented in Milan: ‘Next generation of ultra-light weight flexible space solar cell design‘At the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2024).
