The Chinese Jeseng Group has started building 5 GW Zonne -Zon in three projects in a coal mine zone zone in North China, with an investment of $ 2.3 billion. The projects, reinforced by 2 GW thermal ability and 3.4 GWh of energy storage, will supply 9.3 TWH of clean electricity per year.

Jinneng Group, one of the largest energy companies in the Shanxi province, broke grounds on three large-scale photovoltaic projects with a combined installed capacity of 5 GW in the coal-mining areas of Datong, Noord-Shanxi. The total investment for the projects is estimated at CNY16.5 billion (around $ 2.3 billion).

The developments include: a 1.6 GW solar project in the city of Zuoyun, with an investment of CNY 5.28 billion and approximately 43 square kilometers, planned for completion at the end of 2026 and is expected to generate 2.36 TWH of electricity annually; a 1.7 GW PV facility in the Yungang region, spread over five townships and supported by CNY 5.61 billion in investments, planned for completion in March 2027; And a third 1.7 GW solar farm in Xinrong Town, also supported by CNY 5.61 billion and occupied around 44.4 square kilometers.

The projects form the backbone of the only important renewable basis of China, mainly built on a coal mine zone zone under the 12 large-scale wind and sunbases approved under the “Desert, Gobi and Wasteland” initiative.

In order to guarantee a stable power output of the solid solar panels, the projects are supported by 2 GW thermal ability and 3.4 GWh of energy storage, as approved by the Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission. These will be developed in parallel with the sun plants. The generated energy will feed on the Datong-Huailai-tianjin 1000 kV Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) AC-transmission corridor, already approved by the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and currently under construction possible, allowing SCHONE to demand Hubs and Tianjin.

Jinneng Group noted that the Jinbei-Base will give priority to a very efficient N-type tunneloxide-passivated contact (Topcon) and heterojunction modules. Once operational, the basis is expected to deliver 9.3 TWH of clean electricity annually to the Beijing-Tianjin-Heebei region. The project also includes ecological remediation and land rehabilitation for an estimated 150 square km disappeared country.

Jinneng Group, a provincial energy leader, has accelerated its hinge to renewable energy sources in recent years. In 2024, the 3.5 GW added new wind and solar capacity, which pushed its cumulative portfolio of renewable energy past 15 GW.
