The Chinese solar module manufacturer Das Solar is planning to build a 3 GW Solar Module Assembly Factory in Mandeure, a municipality in Doubs Department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Franche-Comté region in East France.

“Work on the new production facility is progressing quickly” PV Magazine Francenotice that it requires an initial investment of € 109 million ($ 124.1 million).

DAS Solar bought a production location from the French government on November 18, 2024 for € 1.4 million. The site was abandoned since the French car company Faurecia left it in 2020. Asbestos removal started on December 16, 2024, and the main building – set at Huis PV module – assemblage lines – has since been cleaned.

“That is why we get our deadlines for the three planned 1 GW lines,” said Barbier. “We are planning to order the first two by the end of 2025 and the third by 2026.”

The modules will be based on N-type tunneloxide-passivated contact (TOPcon) technology, already in use at the Asian facilities of the group, and designed for floating, roof and carport PV applications.

Das Solar will import PV cells that are produced in China. It is also planning to build a 5 GW cell production factory – with the same technology as in China – in a building next to the first facility. The project can require an investment of € 650 million and create 2500 jobs. The company wants to apply for a building permit in May 2025, start construction in October 2025 and start in 2026.

Das Solar said on 11 April that it had signed his first two similarities in France: one with SUEZ to rug up solar panels on the end of life, and another with the Potovoltaic Institute for Technological Development of Île-de-De-France. The company wants to build a regional industrial hub for the sun sector, although it has not discussed its future projects. For the other components of the solar panels, it is planning to collaborate with his Chinese and European subcontractors.

Das Solar operates 14 factories around the world, with a total panel and cell capacity of 55 GW. It exports its products to 73 countries. Turnover reached $ 3.71 billion in 2023.
