Qcells to recycle solar panels in Georgia

Qcells Is his own recycling operation of the solar panel in Cartersville, Georgia, near the production facility of the solar panel. Ecorecycle by Qcells must have the option of recycling 500,0000 solar panels annually – or around 250 MW.

Ecorecycle first starts with the Georgia facility, but Qcells has plans to expand the recycling effort throughout the country. The new vertical for Qcells will work as a return service with low recycling costs.

“As the US goes to a more sustainable and self-reliant solar industry, Ecorecycle is dedicated by Qcells to pioneering innovative recycling technologies that not only reduce the impact of the environment, but also create economic opportunities,” said Jung-kon Hong, head of Qcell’s production group. “Through strategic investments and advanced solutions, we position ourselves as a leader in the circular economy, so that solar energy remains a truly renewable and responsible power source.”

The Cartersville site from Qcells will soon organize every step of the Silicon Solar Panel Supply Chain – INGOTS, Waffles, cells and panels. As soon as the recycling effort is started near a separate facility, Qcells will be the only manufacturer of the silicon solar panel that has a fully circular solar arrangement. Only first solar energy, a thin film solar panel company in Ohio, also supports production and recycling.

“With this new company, Qcells will come forward as the very first crystalline producer of the Solicon Solar Panel that has a full value chain, so that both the production of solar panels and recycling on American soil are carried out,” said Kelly Weerer, Senior Sustainability at Qcells. “The effective management of solar waste is essential to guarantee the sustainability and resilience in the long term of the clean energy sector. We are proud to lead the launch of Ecorecycle by Qcells.”

Story updated to clarify the recycling of the solar panel will take place in Cartersville, but not in the same facility as production operations.
