Ascent Solar Technologies, an American manufacturer of copper Indium Gallium-selenide (CIGS) Dunne film PV products, has achieved a 15.7% power conversion-efficiency with its Titan module, measured with Air Zero (AM0), which is the generally used standard spectrum of the Earth atmosphere. It noted that the efficiency assessment was achieved on production scale.

The panel measures 30 cm2 with an output of 15.7 W. It is approximately 0.03 mm thick, with a weight of just over 8 grams, with a power density of 1,960 W/kg before Inkapseling, according to the company.

Ascent Solar said in a statement that the product is part of its previously announced strategy to increase the applicability of its CIGS technology for satellite and other space entries applications. It recently announced that it has signed a Master Services Agreement with the American Novi Space for an adapted “Rolle PV array blankets” to be integrated into a satellite current bus.

Novi Space is developing a constellation of satellites that will be equipped with powerful imaging and computer platforms with multi-sensor, with its first commercial satellites launching on board Spacex Transporters in 2026.

Ascent Solar CEO Paul Warley told PV -Magazine That the technology of the company “vibrations and other standard tests will undergo” with Novi. “There are different tests that must be performed to allow a satellite on a rocket. Tests depend on the details of the satellite and can vary, but a vibration test is required by everyone,” Warley said.

According to the Conditions Conditions, Ascent Solar in-Orbit receives performance data on the solar arroys, of which it will be able to “accelerate its solar PV product iterations and to validate improvements based on use.” According to Warley, no further technical details about the rollable arrays for Novi Space were shared because of non-public making agreements.

Ascent Solar has a production facility in Colorado with 5 MW nameplate capacity. The products are designed for fast delivery within six to eight weeks.
