The portfolio consists of eight solar systems that are installed at seven locations, including all four primary schools, high school, high school and the Board of Education Administration Building. While most systems were installed on roofs, Hackensack High School offers a combination of roof and carport solar panels. Together these systems include more than 3,600 solar panels.

“This project is an example of how school districts can use solar energy to achieve both financial and environmental goals,” said Bryant Bernhardt, senior VP of business development at Greenskies. “We are proud to support Hackensack Public Schools in creating a more sustainable future for their students, staff and community.”

The installed solar panels and their respective locations are:

  • Hackensack High School – 1 MW combined
  • Hackkensack Middle School – 303 KW
  • Nellie K. Parker School (Elementary) – 113 KW
  • Jackson Avenue School (Elementary) – 70 kW
  • Fanny Meyer Hillers School (Elementary) – 41 KW
  • Fairmount School (Elementary) – 24 kW
  • Padovano Center (Boe Administration Building) – 65 kW

Greenskies was the solar developer, EPC, financier and owner for the projects and will manage their long-term activities and maintenance. The installations were funded through a 15-year purchase agreement for solar energy, so that HPS can benefit from clean energy without in advance investment.

“By switching to renewable energy, we reduce our environmental footprint and we create long-term costs that can be invested directly in our classrooms,” said assistant chief inspector Andrea Parchment. “We also offer our students examples of innovation and sustainability in action. They walk to school every day, they will see firsthand how smart energy choices can feed both education and environmental responsibility.”
