Dry ice cream can be used to suppress lithium battery fires

A fire brigade company established in Georgia has introduced a unique fire suppressing system for lithium battery setups. Elsa van Carver fire Is the first fire suppressing system that uses dry ice (fixed CO₂) to deliver quickly, clean and effective cooling – specially designed to contain and control lithium battery fires.

Carver Fire says that Elsa is currently being used in an American facility for the production of batteries, which protects sensitive and expensive production equipment against the potential threat of module burns. By quickly cooling and smothering of battery fires without water, foam or residue, Elsa prevents escalation and minimizes downtime, thereby providing the operational value to customers.

“We made Elsa because battery fires are different from everything that traditional fire suppression is designed to handle,” said Carver Anderson, founder of Carver Fire. “Dry ice cools quickly without leaving Hazmat damage to water or foam, making it ideal for sensitive, risky environments.”

Elsa is a cryogenic fire suppressing system that uses ultra-cold dry-free food game. It is residue -free and requires no water, foam or toxic chemicals. It is safe for use around lithium ion batteries, electronics and other critical assets. It has proven performance in lab and field implementations.

In addition to the production of batteries, Elsa has attracted strong interest in lithium battery recyclers and research laboratories – two industries where battery fires pose a significant risk for both staff and critical infrastructure. In these environments, the ability to neatly suppress fires, without poisonous smoke, floods of workspace or contamination with equipment, especially valuable.
