Sierra Space, a company for space and defense technology company located in the US, has announced a new facilty to expand its capacity to produce Solar PV energy systems for satellites, as well as other applications.

“The new Sierra Space Power Station facility has the production capacity of the solar production of approximately 150 kW per year, and we have plans to triple in the coming years,” said Brian Anthony, vice president of programs in Sierra Space PV Magazine.

The facility of 70,000 m² (6,503 m2) is located in Colorado and represents an investment of $ 45 million that is built to house the production of solar arrays, including office space, tools and infrastructure for testing thermal, vibration and pyroshock performance. It has a staff of 100.

The plan is to deliver 40 satellite wings in the first instance, which increases the wings per year on a full scale to 100 satellites. Including production for national defense applications.

The solar arroys of the company for Space have a high-efficient gallium arsenide (mesh) Triple Junction Metal Wrap Through (MWT) micro cells, with a power conversion efficiency of 30% at the wafer level, according to Anthony. The company has a partner to manufacture the cells according to its specifications.

To achieve its production goals, the company has automated processes to shorten the lead times of the solar panel, to increase productivity and yield. For example, it has a patented surface dismantling process (SMT) to repair cells, wiring and strings on printed printed circuit plates (PCB) robotic.

SMT is used in the electronics industry for integrating chips, devices and optical components on PCBs with precision and fast transit.

Sierra Space says that the “cheap, very scalable power systems” offers, ranging in size from 10 watts to 10 kW, and that are end-to-end electric current solutions consist of fully assembled and tested solar panels, solar panels, slip rings, hinges, hearters, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hears, hingers, hears, hears animals, hears, hears animals, hears animals, hears animals, hears animals, hears animals, hears animals, hears animals, hearing animals, hears, hears animals are hearing animals, hears, hears animals Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinges, Hinge Moms and Motor Electronics.

Earlier this month, Sierra Space announced a new operation that focuses on supporting the American national security space as a main contractor, as well as a new production facility dedicated to defense satellites.

Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), the company is vertically integrated with various divisions with space technologies, space traitors, space stations and technologies for commercial space and defense applications.
