The latest collaboration between the US DEPT of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Perovskite-Silicon Tandem manufacturer CubicPV, based in Bedford, Massachusetts, has delivered a Perovskiet minim module with a certified efficiency of 24.0%.

The two noted that it is the first time that an American effort has set a record in the Perovskite Mini Module category.

The certified efficiency of 24% is one step further on the Perovskite Mini module record of 23.9% registered in “Solar Cell Efficiency Tables (version 66),”Published by Progress in photovoltaicThey noted in a statement

It is also an improvement of the efficiency of the minimodule of 6 cm2 that NREL and CUBICPV have built in collaboration with researchers from the US, Saudi Aarabia and the VK, reported by PV Magazine in May, which had a laboratory efficiency of 23% and less than 9% of C. after 25 ° C.

The Focus of CubicPV is on tandem solar devices, using perovskites on top of silicon to make a solar panel that records more photons and continues to reduce the costs of energy, while NREL’s focus is on promoting production, durability and efficiency of Perovskite-Eigentive teeth, according to Nrel.

Learning points from the research cooperation will be transferred in -house, according to Laureen Sanderson of CubicPV, Chief Communications Officer. “The device has a particularly high open circuit voltage and filling factor enabled by excellent defect -passiing, and we evaluate methods to transfer this or derived lessons to our scalable, sustainable basic line pile,” she said PV -Magazine.

“To transfer to our baseline, we require that the increase in efficiency also corresponds to or surpass the current durability performance -statistics under aggressive light/heat tests,” she explained.

CUBICPV uses solution processing of the perovskite layer via final that coating in the production process, according to Sanderson. Other layers of the cell are done with a mixture of solution and vapor deposits with the help of established methods.

With regard to the Potential applications of Tandem Perovskiet-Silicon Zonne-PV, Sanderson said that tThe chance of tandem is huge and the PV route map of the world must look beyond the limits of some intersection that are approached by the best silicon devices of today. “Tandem is the clear path to go to the next level of efficiency and Perovskiet is the most important enabler,” she emphasized. “With module prices that are so low, the system costs are powered by efficiency and tandem is the key to reducing these area -related costs.”

CUBICPV will soon have stability mile poles. “Customers would like to understand how to accurately predict testing tests to accurately predict the field performance. We have different outdoor installations. We also implement higher transit hardware for accelerated indoor stress tests to build even larger amounts of data to accelerate the path to commercialization,” Sanderson said.

The efforts will continue to concentrate on “using the technical leadership of the US and collaborating with top researchers in the world” in the direction of scalable, commercially viable and sustainable products.
