US to impose a steep antidumping height on battery material from China
On Thursday, the United States unveiled provisional anti -dumping rights of 93.5 percent on the import of an important battery component from China, after looking at a petition about this.
The final provisions regarding tasks on graphite are expected at the beginning of December, according to the US Commerce Department.
The investigation came after a petition from the American active anodia material producers, an ad-hoc coalition including American graphite producers, at the end of last year.
Graphite is an important raw material that is used in making anodes of batteries, and China is a dominant player when it comes to the processing capacity of graphite.
The duty can increase the temperatures in the global supply chain for electric vehicles, which may contribute to costs for car manufacturers who trust the material for production.
The products that fall under the research include active anodia material, regardless of whether they are included in finished batteries.
China and the United States are now working on negotiations on their broader economic relationship after reaching a framework for a deal last month, a step back from the edge of a spiral trade war.
When asked about the new graphite tasks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Beijing said on Friday that “the essence of the economic and trade cooperation of China-us is mutual benefit and win-win results”.
“It is hoped that the American side will consciously adhere to the rules of the market economy and the healthy and stable development of the economic and trade relations of China-us,” said spokesperson Lin Jian.
The notification of the American trade department came after Washington also focused from Southeast Asia earlier this year on the import of solar energy from Southeast Asia.
