Plug-in solar devices make it possible to install PV systems with minimal efforts and without professional help. These systems are usually installed on balconies, leading to the term “photovoltaic balcony system” in Germany.

However, the German mounting system manufacturer Ilzhöfer now offers a plug-in mini photooltaic systems for flat roofs, carports and trapezoidal plate roofs.

Flat roofs are especially suitable for the new solution, according to the manufacturer. The mini photo photovoltaic systems do not require drilling or roof penetration. The Ballast system has been tested by wind tunnel and is designed for easy self-assembly, according to Ilzhöfer.

Each package contains solar modules, an inverter and a mounting system. The company supplies its “golf” mounting solution for flat roofs and the “hook” system for trapezoidal metal roofs. Allegedly the “hook” system makes direct mounting on the metal sheet possible and can be adjusted to different roof geometries.

The system with two solar modules, an 800 W Hoymiles -Omsorterer, the “hook” mounting system and connecting cables costs € 395 ($ 462). A package with four bifacial 450 W glass glass modules costs € 795 ($ 930). The carport version with four modules is € 995.

The systems can usually be connected to the grid via a plug. A special connection with a backflow prevention or a Wieland system is recommended.

For customers who do not trust in connecting the system itself, installation services are available. The costs vary, but often start under € 400, according to Ilzhöfer. The company provides an overview of delivery and installation costs from € 385 on its website.

The plug-in solar systems are also cost-effective, the company said. Based on a purchase price of € 400 to € 1,000 and an electricity price of € 0.35/kWh to € 0.40/kWh, the systems could pay themselves in two to three years. This estimate presupposes the annual production of solar energy from 600 kWh to 750 kWh, mainly for consumption on site.
