Organic photovoltaic in California (Obtain) Start-up Next Energy Technologies has installed a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) Facade with his OPT -Coatings.

The installation is at the headquarters of the company in Santa Barbara and has six transparent windows of 40 by 60 inch each (101.6 cm x 152.4 cm) for a total surface of 100 square base (9.3 m2).

Each insulating glass unit contains the after -board coating of Next Lite and runs cables through the frame system.

The windows were manufactured with low-e coated inner board Lites and Spacers supplied by architectural glass manufacturer Viracon, while the framing system was designed, supplied and installed by Walters & Wolf.

Next says that the installation is the world’s first commercial BIPV façade to contain its COATINGS, following the unveiling of its fully transparent organic PV window IN February.

The company estimates that, although the use of the existing infrastructure, the OPP -façade can generate sufficient electricity to use approximately 20% to 25% of energy consumption typical of commercial properties.

Daniel Emmett, CEO, executive chairman and co-founder of Next, said that the successful scaling of the technology “is taking the following and industry closer to a future of sustainable building design.”

“We are incredibly proud of the quality of the coating, the seamless installation and the performance of the power generation that we already see from this first facade installation,” he added.
