New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has launched New York’s first Bulk energy storage request for proposals (RFP), intended to purchase 1 GW of bulk energy storage as part of the 6-GW energy storage rails of New York.

“Today’s action is another example of New York’s constant dedication to strengthen our schedule, so that the state remains an affordable and more reliable electricity system now and far into the future,” said Gov. Hochul. “Safe and strategic use of energy storage will help stimulate economic development and to lower the costs for New Yorkers.”

Managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (Nyserda), through its Bulk energy storage program, this competitive request wants to promote a series of energy storage technologies and timely progress to obtain 3 GW of Bulk energy storage on the three requests. All Nyserda-Supported Energy Storage projects are contractually required to meet the new storage safety codes accepted last week in uniform code by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council, which reflect the work and recommendations From the New York State Inter-agency Fire Safety Working Group (FSWG). Although the newly adopted code only comes into effect on January 1, 2026, Nyserda has already integrated these recommendations in the programs for homes, retail and bulk energy storage to ensure that facilities are placed safely, that First Responders have the necessary training and that all sites have extensive emergency aid plans.

“The Bulk energy storage program from Nyserda offers the possibility to double the current amount of energy storage that has been used, contracted and assigned throughout the state. This application will further promote New York’s focus on the reliability of New York on the grid reliability, peak reduction in our state, while satisfied with the question of the demand to be installed in the demand for more. Harris, Nyserda.

Nyserda’s bulk energy storage program uses Order of the New York Public Service Commission (PSC)Partially modeled according to the renewable energy certificate (REC) and offshore Wind Renewable Energy Credit (OREC) used in other Nyserda programs. The ISC is a market-based mechanism that provides project owners more income, while encouraging them to participate in wholesale energy and capacity markets. ISCs will be made on the basis of the operational availability of a project and will represent 1 MWh of energy storage capacity that is operational and is available to discharge on a certain day; Projects are credited and compensated on the basis of the operational availability that they reach every month in the course of the 15 to 25-year contracts.

Entities interested in responding to this application must complete a first qualifying step for proposals to demonstrate the suitability of the program. Step one subsidiability requests are due to Nyserda at 3 p.m. et on 4 September 2025. As soon as proposals are deemed to be eligible by Nyserda, proposals are invited to submit a “step two” bidding proposal for project evaluation.

And built and built and built and built and built and built with the best in-class security standards. In addition, all project application must contain an extensive safety and security plan that describes how they will adhere to the Bulk Energy Storage Program Manual requirements.

Also, associated with this application, is Ny Green Bank (NYGB), a division of Nyserda and a specialized investment fund that focuses on bridging financial lacunes in clean energy and renewable infrastructure markets in the state of New York to promote the Energies and In Beleggers to In Beleggers. Entities interested in applying for this financing can submit an application NYGB RFP No. 1.

The Nyserda sitting team also works closely with local governments to offer tailor -made education, technical assistance and modeling local laws. Throughout Sources for clean energyThe Siting team enables communities with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions and to manage responsible development of clean energy in host communities.

New York’s 6-GW energy storage Route map Also authorizes funds for Nyserda to support 200 MW of new energy storage on a residential scale and 1500 MW of new commercial and community scale energy. In addition, at least 35% of the benefits of these new energy storage projects will be assigned to disadvantaged communities.
