The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has published a concept of it Updated strategic planThey describe and exploit the efforts of the Power Authority to develop the renewable generation and energy storage projects to improve the reliability and resilience of the New York network. The draft plan comprises 20 new projects for renewable generation and 156 energy storage projects that represent a combined capacity of more than 3.8 GW. Including the first tranche of projects identified in the inaugural strategic plan – approved Due to the NYPA Board of Trustees in January – NYPA’s concept updated strategic plan, 64 potential clean energy projects that represent almost 7 GW capacity – enough electricity to provide power to power.

“Despite the federal uncertainties surrounding renewable energy, the Power Authority remains laser-oriented on building a diverse portfolio of emission-free power generation that will support the increasing power requirements on the electric schedule of New York,” said Nypa President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll. “The concept update of our strategic plan for renewable energy sources includes more than 200 projects that represent nearly 7 GW – the total possibilities for energy capacity doubled that have been described in our inaugural plan that was published only six months ago. Although we have been proud of the work that has been achieved with a variety in 2023 in 2023 clean energy projects ”

The new plan emphasizes 17 solar panels, three wind projects and 156 energy storage projects in every region of the state.

A public comment period associated with the updated plan is now underway and ends on 12 September. As part of the public comment period, NYPA will organize two virtual public hearings: one on August 19, between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m., and another on August 20 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. click here register To speak at the virtual public hearing. Public comments about this concept updated strategic plan can be submitted to the NYPA Strategic Plan Comment Portal.

The Power Authority publishes this concept of the updated plan and initiates the 2025 conferration process at the same time to enable Conferees to consider the draft version of the plan and at the same time to provide the Power Authority about the renewable energy development program. The 2023 and 2024 Conferral reports are available here.

In the time since Governor Kathy Hochul approved the extensive authority of the Power Authority in May 2023, NYPA has made great progress in the direction of the development of new projects for renewable energy consumption. The Power Authority formed new business structures, completed important personnel roles, made regulatory applications, insured tax rules, kept two conferration processes in contact with stakeholders in the entire state and established a new subsidy for renewable energy – the New York Renewable Energy Development Corporation. In March 2025, Governor Hochul announced that the Power Authority has acquired the full ownership of Somers Solar, a 20 Megawatt (MW) Solar Energy Generation Project in Washington County. It is the first project described in the strategic plan for renewable energy sources owned by the Power Authority.

In addition, a request for qualifications (RFQ) remains open in search of extra private developers, including community -based developers and investors who want to collaborate with the Power Authority on the development of projects for generating renewable energy. All entities that are qualified in advance by this reopening of RFQ in 2025 will be added to the entities that were earlier In advance qualified in 2024. To date, 94 developers and investors have been qualified in advance. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit an application on the purchase of NYPA webpage. Entries are assessed on roles. The RFQ remains open until September 30.
