Slovenia implements 85 MW Solar in H1 – PV Magazine International

Slovenia installed 85 MW of Solar Zon in the first half of 2025, powered by growth in commercial and industrial (C&I) projects and installations on utility scale. The lowest total in four years reflects a sharp fall in the installations of residential installations, despite continuous subsidies for hybrid systems for homes.

Slovenia added 85 MW of solar energy during the first six months of 2025, according to figures from the Slovenian photovoltaic association (Zdruenje Slovenske Fotovoltaike).

The director of the association, Nina Hojnik, said PV -Magazine That the figure marks the lowest added capacity in the past four years. The delay is largely due to a sharp fall in residential installations, traditionally the strongest market segment in Slovenia.

Hojnik said that most residential systems connected in the first half of 2025 were installed last year, before the end of the network schedule, but was confronted with delays in the grid connection.

To tackle this, the association worked to ensure that those systems were eligible for net measurement.

“Without that the photo would be very different,” Hojnik said. She added that around 500 residential systems were connected outside of this agreement in the first six months of 2025 compared to around 10,000 in previous years in the same period.

Hojnik said that the residential sun sector of Slovenia has had to deal with negative press and wrong information in regular media, together with changes to the electricity rate system in October 2024, which leads to trust and communication problems.

She added that Slovenia, unlike other countries that have a delay of the solar -zonne -Zonne -Zonne -Zonne -Zonne energy, continues to offer favorable market conditions. These include financing calls in all solar segments and support for independent batteries.

Subsidies for residential hybrid systems remain particularly generous. Hojnik said they were designed to offer returns that are similar to those who are seen under net measurement, while consumers help to avoid the impact of the new tariff system. The challenge, she said, is convincing consumers to take advantage of the stimuli.

“We need a two -phase procedure that would protect the money for investors before the project realized,” Hojnik said. “This would ensure that the investor receives the guarantee to receive the money as soon as the project is completed and would also enable the installation companies to offer more favorable conditions to customers.”

The C&I market of Slovenia, mainly from medium-sized roof installations, is now the strongest segment in the country. It was good for about half of the new installations in the January-June period. Hojnik said there is reason for optimism, with reference to a positive trend in connecting permits.

The segment on Nuts scale remains at an early stage, but shows modest growth. The first half of 2025 saw two new connections in the field of Nuts scale of a total of 7.4 MW, an increase of 6.5 MW added in all 2024.

Hojnik said that nine connecting permits on Nuts scale were approved in the first half of 2025, a total of 27 MW. In May, the Slovenian government approved a spatial plan for a solar project of 30 MW.

One of the remarkable projects that will be online in Slovenia during the first half of the year was a 2.9 MW Sun Factory in the upper reservoir of the AVCE pumped storage in the hydropower. The plant is expected to reach 8 MW by the end of next year. So far, Slovenia has also connected its largest solar installation on the roof: an array of 4.4 MW on the roof of the home device Gorenje-Hisse’s industrial factory.

Slovenia used 298 MW Zonne -Zonne energy in 2024 in 2024 and 400 MW PV in 2023. Towards the end of the first half of 2025, the cumulative capacity reached 1.5 GW.
