Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developer Eku Energy has announced that it has successfully submitted two Bess projects in the UK.
The Basildon Bess, located near Basildon, Essex and the Loudwater Bess, located in Buckinghamshire, have a combined capacity of 130 MWh. The Loudwater Bess has a capacity of 39 MW/55MWH, and the Basildon Bess, the first duration of 2 hours from Eku Energy, has a capacity of 28 MW/56MWH. Both projects use the Bess technology of NHOA Energy, which marks NHOA access to the British Bess market.
The systems started construction in February 2024, After Eku Energy and NHOA have announced them Partnership for the project in July 2023. More recently, NHOA Energy has also made delivery agreements with colleague developer Statkraft, after he has agreed to deliver Bess units for Statkraft 113MWH Coylon Bess in Scotland.
Eku Energy CEO Daniel Burrows said that the commissioning of these two Bess developments creates “diversity” in the operational portfolio of Eku Energy in the UK. He added: “With the commissioning of these two projects, Eku Energy continues to encourage our mission to speed up the energy transition by supplying safe, safe and reliable battery storage assets that offer cost -effective clean energy”.
Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, worldwide director of NHOA Energy, noted: “Delivering clean energy infrastructures does not stop at the commissioning. It is about staying, operating and growing together, and we are proud to continue our journey with Eku Energy”.
Under separate long-term service agreements, NHOA Energy will also offer current operations and maintenance services for both the Basildon and Loudwater BESS sites.
The news follows an announcement last year that Eku Energy had submitted the first British battery development, The Maldon Bess. The Maldon Bess project is located in Essex, just outside of London and has a capacity of 40 MW/40MWH and was built by Trina Storage. Trina Storage has also agreed to maintain and maintain the project throughout the operational lifespan, and the project has also successfully concluded a long -term market contract that is traded by EDF.
Eku Energy currently has an extensive portfolio, with more than 4GWH from Bess projects around the world that are currently in development, construction or operation. These include five major projects in Australia, two in Japan and four in the UK. Construction is currently underway on the Ocker Hill Bess of Eku Energy, a project of 99 MW/198 MWH in the Midlands, which goes live at the end of 2026.
