Bess -Update: Great Deals for Sae, Wärtsilä, Canadian Solar, EDF
Important movements are made in the British Bess sector as important players in the industry Progress Large Projects.
Technology group Wärtsila has announced that it will deliver a 68 MW Bess contract to Zenobe for the Lerwick Power Station Project in Lerwick, Shetland. The project will enable the Lerwick Power Station to enter a standby role and which can be used to integrate more strength by nearby wind developments in the Shetland region.
The project, known as the Shetland Standby project, will go live in 2026. Tamara De Gruyter, President, Wärtsilä Energy Storage and EVP, Wärtsilä, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, which says: “As European grilles are more and more dependent and dependent, projects like this the importance of the energy storage for Gridte Stability”.
James Basden, founder and director of Zenobē, agreed, and added that the development “marks an important step in the transition from the islands to a clean and resilient energy system.” He also stated: “We are proud to bring our battery expert to a project that will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels on the island network.”
Sae calls in the Canadian Solar, EDF for Welsh Bess Project
In the meantime, Sae has agreed various supply and construction contracts in Wales for the USKMouth Bess in Zuid -Wales.
The USKMouth Bess, which will be part of the USKMouth Sustainable Energy Park, will have a 240 MWH capacity with the possibility to extend to 480mWh in the coming years. Sae has now signed contracts with Canadian Solar, who will deliver the Bess units for the USKMouth development. Under the development, Canadian Solar has also promised to deliver a total of 1.1 GWH Bess equipment for two future SAE projects, the Mey Bess and AW3.
The construction has now started at the USKMouth Bess, which connected to the network and the full commercial activities in the first quarter of 2027 in October 2026. The construction is completed by the local company Jones Bros, which has previously worked on other green energy projects on the USKMouth site.
