Lithium-ion OEM Energy Energy supplies 200 MWH battery energy storage systems (BESS) to developer-operator field for two projects in Scotland.

Envision will offer the Bess units of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) for Field’s Holmston and Drum Farm projects in Scotland. Both total 50 MW/100MWH capacity.

The construction of the Holmston project started this summer and the construction on Drum Farm starts at the start of autumn, with both projects that are completed by the end of 2026.

Field The two projects of Developer Res are taken over in January 2024. The agreements are also supplied with a 15-year-old long-term service agreement (LTSA).

Field has raised £ 42 million in financing earlier this year for the Holmston and Drum Farm projectsIn addition to the smaller, 25mw Whitebirk project from Banks Rabobank and ING. Example also supplies the Bess for Whitebirk.

Scotland is an important region for the energy transition of the UK, with a large pipeline of offshore wind that comes online online in the coming years, all of which have to make contact with the British grid. This will increase an existing mismatch in supply and demand, with the most demand in England, and large-scale Bess can play an important role in softening this, especially through the Balancing Mechanism (BM).

The UK focuses on 23-27 GW of the short-term Bess by 2030, with just over 7GW/10GWH online today (internal data from Solar Media Market Research).
