Egypt signs a land use contract for 2 GW Solar cell and Panel complex-PV Magazine International

Egypt has signed a contract for land use for a 2 GW solar cell and 2 GW panel complex with 1 GWH storage, supported by investors from Egypt, China, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

Investors from Egypt, China, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates will build a large -scale, fully integrated industrial solar complex in Egypt in Egypt under a land use contract.

The Atom Solar Egypt complex produces 2 GW solar cells, 2 GW solar panels and 1 GWH of energy storage. It will cover more than 200,000 m² in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, part of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of Suez Canal.

The land user contract was signed with the Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madboulny. According to the Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), the $ 220 million project capital and financing of the AH, the JA Solar van Egypt, the Global South Utilities of the VAE, the Infinity Capital of Bahrain.

Sis said that the output of the Solar Cell Factory will be exported to global markets that are confronted with a growing import gap, while the factory in the solar panel will supply the Egyptian market and regional markets in the middle and Africa.

The project will gradually increase the share of local components by buying materials such as aluminum and glass from Egypt.

It will be implemented in three years, including the construction and test operation, and is expected to offer 841 direct jobs.

In November 2024, PV -Magazine reported that yes Solar had agreed to build a 2 GW solar cell and module factory in Egypt with the support of Global South Utilities.

In June 2025, the Chinese sun company Sunrev Solar started working on an integrated industrial complex for solar components in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone in Egypt, with the first phase of construction that includes two factories that include 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of solar modules.
