Researchers in China have investigated four strategies that minimize the recombination centers of the topcon’s topcon and improve the performance of light of light. These were then divided into different treatment groups for acid sets or alkali polishes. “The surface emorfology and 3D morphology of the back of the waffles were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM, JSM-6510) and an Olympus electron microscope (DSXHRSU),” the scientists explained. “Napson (RG-2000PV) and WEP-Wafer profile (CVP21) were used to evaluate the plate resistance from the back of the waffles and determine the doping profiles.”

The analysis showed that EM treatment is able to increase the cell filling factor in comparison with the simple E-treatment, but reduces the open circuit voltage, resulting in a cell efficiency of 24.57%. The P2 technique turned out to increase both the filling factor and the open circuit voltage and to increase cell efficiency by 0.18% compared to a device that underwent the E-treatment, with the efficiency of the device 24.73%.

Furthermore, the analysis showed that the topcon cell with the highest efficiency of 24.78% that was treated with PM, which pushed the filling factor to 84.24% while retaining high open circuit voltage levels.

“The raw surface of the PM treatment ensures that longer wavelengths of light penetrate the heavily doped poly-si, which improves the absorption of the free wearer and improves light consumption,” the scientists emphasized. “This treatment shows significant benefits when improving the open circuit voltage and short-circuit current of solar cells. In the meantime, the rear micro-texture morphology is considerably reducing the contact resistance of the back, which is conducive to improving the filling factor.”

Their findings can be found in the study “Research into electrical properties and mechanism of N-Topcon sun cells with different rear surfaces“Published in Solar energy. The research group consisted of academics of Chinese Changzhou University.
