BYD has unveiled a new DC energy storage system with the world’s largest capacity for one unit of 14.5 MWh, which intensifies the competition in the fast-growing storage market on utility scale. The “Haohan” system was launched on September 18 at the International Digital Energy Expo in Shenzhen.

The company said that the minimum unit capacity of HOHAN of 14. 5MWH is more than double the industrial standard of 6-7 MWh. When configured in a standard 20-foot container, the system delivers 10 MWh and reaches a volumetric energy density of 233 kWh per cubic meter, an increase of 51% on the industrial average. For a storage plant of 1 GWH, Haohan would reduce the number of required units by more than half, reduce land use by a third and reduce cell count by 76%.
