Meyer Burger, the besieged Swiss solar panel manufacturer who submitted bankruptcy earlier this year, has announced today that it will not try to restart after not finding an investor. The remaining 45 employees in Switzerland were recently informed. Nearly 300 employees in the United States and those who worked at the Panel Assembly facility of Meyer Burger in Arizona were fired in May.

Meyer Burger started in the solar industry as a developer of the production equipment for solar panels (Herojunction Technology (HJT). The “Smartwire” designs had a license of other production names. In 2020 the company took the direct production and sale of sunbells and panel, the first production facilities were opened in Germany. Meyer Burger in Goodyear, Arizona, was opened in 2024 and was the only HJT manufacturer in the United States.

What helped Meyer Burger’s American factory outside the ground was a 5-GW food agreement with large-scale developer the Shaw Renewable Investments (Desri). Desri terminated his delivery agreement November 2024And Meyer Burger Dutte quickly.

HJT -Zonnenpanelen are still fairly unique for the market. The combination of crystalline silicon and amorf silicon thin film is a specialized production process that is a few steps more complicated than the industry stand of Perc and Topcon Silicon Development. This differentiator was supposed to give Meyer Burger a head start on the N-type/Topcon patent Battles that move through the industry.

Meyer Burger announced in today stopping short That it will sell the production equipment of the Arizona factory where Solar Americas. Where an assembly facility for solar panel operates in Texas and produces a series of topcon, perc and hjt modules in its Indian factories.
