The latest analysis of ALEASOFT Energy Forecasting is an increase in gas and CO2 emission prices and the increase in demand for electricity had an upward influence on electricity prices on most major European markets last week. In the meantime, Portugal and Spain established new records for solar energy that was produced during a day in September.

The weekly average electricity price rose on most major European markets in the second week of September, according to analysis by ALEASOFT Energy Prognosing.

The Spanish consultancy firm noted an increase in the weekly average electricity price in the Belgian, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish markets compared to the week before. The exceptions were the British and Nordic markets, where the average electricity price fell week on week.

Despite the upward trend, the averages remained below € 75 ($ 88.27)/MW in most analyzed markets, with the Dutch (€ 85.92/MWh), German (€ 92.99/MWh) and Italian (€ 111.16/MWh) markets the exceptions. The lowest average weekly price was registered on the French market, at € 26.36/MWh.

ALEASOFT says that the increase in average electricity prices was caused by an increase in prices for weekly gas and CO2 emission provision, in addition to an increase in the demand for electricity in some markets and a decrease in solar energy production in France, Germany and Italy.

The consultancy expects that electricity prices in the third week of September will fall most analyzed markets, usually influenced by a decrease in demand for electricity.

Aleaoft also discovered that the production of solar energy increased in the Iberian markets of Portugal and Spain last week. Both countries broke their records for solar energy produced on a day in September, with Portugal reaching 25 GWH on 9 September and Spain hit GWH on 12 September 193.

ALEASOFT predicts that this week the production of solar energy will see in Germany and Italy, in addition to further solar in Spain.
