Vermeer optimizes the automation of solar project site with the addition of the Trimble Groundworks Machine Control System at the PD10R and PD25R -External Pile Drivers of the manufacturer. Combining these systems is a step forward in machine automation, which improves productivity in the construction of solar farms.
With the addition of the To limit Technology, the Vermeer PD10R or PD25R -Paldriver automatically moves to the precise location of a stack according to the project plan and optimizes the steps required to drive the stack to the accurate depth with minimal operator inputs on a remote control. With this system, an operator can complete the task to manage posts, otherwise complete a task of two or three people. The Trimble Groundworks Machine control system can also increase the speed of stacking by reducing the time it costs to navigate a machine to the right location. It also minimizes fatigue of the operator by being able to concentrate the operator on the passene instead of machine operation.
“With the tree in energy requirements around the world, many energy companies want to go to solar energy to help them reach both economic and emission goals,” said Ed Savage, Lead Product Manager at Vermeer. “Using Trimble Machine Control Technology with Vermeer Pile Driving Technology has the possibility to change the way in which solar farms are built. Now driving on piles requires minimum inputs of the operator and can increase the speed and accuracy of the construction of solar farms.”

Cloud-based report
In addition to the use of machine control with the pile control programs, project managers can also use Trimble Works Manager Cloud-based software as a central hub for real-time reporting of production and quality data. With data available in the cloud, project managers can more easily solve the activities, follow the general project progress in real time and guarantee an optimized and stable stack speed.
“The combination of controlling and remote control stack drivers represents the next step on the way to autonomy and has the potential to greatly improve the safety, productivity, speed and accuracy of employees on solar projects,” said Elwyn Mclachlan, VP of civil solutions at Trimble. “Together, Vermeer and Trimble change how projects are completed and can improve the process of building solar farms for our customers and our planet.”
Trimble Groundworks Is now available for Vermeer PD10R and PD25R stacking drivers worldwide via the Sitech Distribution Canal.
