Last year, Oregon-based Mark Jacobs was looking for a jigsaw puzzle that depicted rural American life – but with solar energy. He couldn’t find anything, so he set out to make his own.
Kathleen Russell’s oil painting now on display in puzzle form.
The result is the 500-piece puzzle “Solar Farms in America” that is now for sale via Portland Puzzle: portland puzzle.
Jacobs is chairman of the board Twende Solar, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing solar energy to under-resourced communities. He donates 10% of puzzle sales to the nonprofit.
“We need more Americans to see solar energy as a beautiful thing. Fingers crossed, this little puzzle can play a small role in that,” he said.
Jacobs collaborated with a local artist Kathleen Russell on the puzzle design, which shows a rural landscape with agricultural implements, plants and solar panels.
