More than 50 Republicans in the House of Representatives ask Commerce to halt imports of Chinese solar inverters

On November 14, more than fifty Republicans in the House of Representatives in the conservative caucus sent a letter to the Commerce Department. Howard Lutnick asks the department to stop importing Chinese solar inverters. Republicans expressed concern about the situation in May 2025 Reuters report that has found fraudulent communications equipment in some Chinese solar inverters that is not listed in the product documents.

“The integration of critical grid technologies, such as large-scale solar and battery inverters, from foreign entities of concern poses unacceptable risks to national security, the economy and the supply chain,” the letter said.

The new Foreign Enty of Concern (FEOC) rules expected to be implemented next year will discourage developers seeking federal tax incentives from using much equipment from China, but smaller, non-ITC projects could still choose to do so.

A number of inverter manufacturers have set up production facilities in the US in recent years. To see Solar energy in the world most recently updated list here.
