MoroccoThe National Electricity and Drinking Water Agency (ONEE) is conducting a tender for the construction of an ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternating current (AC) power line.

According to a message published in the office websitethe electricity line will connect the Boujdour and Tensift regions, transporting approximately 2 GW of renewable energy over a distance of approximately 1,000 kilometers.

The first phase of the tender is a prequalification round, where potential applicants are invited to submit bids before January 15, 2026. ONEE will then select contractors to participate in the second phase of the tender, which will be conducted according to an engineering, procurement and construction model.

The chosen contractor will be responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of the project under a turnkey contract. Commissioning is currently scheduled for December 2028.

The Boujdour-Tensift UHV connection is part of a broader series of major electrical infrastructure projects currently in operation, under construction or under development by ONEE. One of the projects under development is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) that will connect the southern and central regions of Morocco.

According to figures from ONEE, there are currently more than 30,000 km of UHV power lines operational in Morocco. The office is currently building a 400 kV double-circuit line, which will be commissioned by the middle of next year and will enable the transmission of a further 900 MW of power, mainly from new wind farms currently under construction.
