Sustainable energy developer Edify Energy awarded the prize Gamuda company DT infrastructure the EPC is contracting for its Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap and Ganymirra and Majors Creek solar and battery projects in regional Queensland.

The adjacent Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap power plantsnear Biloela in central Queensland, will feature a combined 600MW of solar and 600MW/2,400MWh of battery storage.

The partly located Ganymirra and Majors Creek power stationswhich is being developed near Townsville in the state’s north, includes a combined capacity of 300MW of solar and 300MW/1,200MWh of battery energy storage.

Sydney-based Edify Energy, now property of Canadian investment group La Caisse, said both projects will employ DC-coupled hybrid configurations and employ grid-forming inverter technologies designed to improve the stability and resilience of the electricity grid.

Edify Energy Chief Executive Ben Warne expects the developments to make a significant contribution to the national electricity market with the adoption of the best and latest solar, battery and inverter technology to bring stable and dispatchable solar energy to the grid in the most efficient way.

“We are proud of the important role these major energy producers will play in the transition to an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy future,” he said, adding that the projects will also provide meaningful injections into local regional economies. “These projects will create significant jobs during construction, support local communities and industry and help meet the infrastructure needs of Queensland’s energy system, in line with the Queensland Energy Roadmap.”
