Renewable energy-focused architectural firm MMPV design has turned into a worker-owned cooperative. In this model, employees own and control the company, electing their colleagues to the board of directors and sharing the profits.

The company made the change when Mariana Moncada, who owned MMPV Design for fifteen years, chose to sell the company to her employees so that ownership would pass into the hands of those who helped her build the company. MMPV Design focuses on projects that advance solar energy, energy storage and electric vehicle infrastructure in the United States.

“I believe that being a cooperative will allow our team to get involved in growing the company, sharing ideas and streamlining processes,” said Stella Robitaille, a director and architect of history who serves as secretary and treasurer on MMPV’s board of directors.

Greater commitment to customer service

Members of the MMPV Design cooperative believe that their new model will allow the company to continue providing superior services to its customers.

“Greater ownership will lead to an even greater commitment to customer service, something we are proud of and where our strength as a company lies,” said Krista Lamondin, a principal and renowned architect at MMPV Design, who chairs the new board of directors.

Project Equity, a national nonprofit organization committed to advancing employee ownership, guided MMPV Design through every phase of the transition, providing practical expertise and capital support through its Accelerate employee ownership And Employee Ownership Catalyst Fund programs.
