Add to three other solar panels nearby Disney property in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, the company’s newest solar installation has reached its limits Walt Disney World Resort about the proverbial turning point of the sun.

The 74.5 MW facility was energized in late April and covers approximately 1,000 acres (484 hectares) in Levy County, Florida, approximately 130 miles (210 kilometers) northwest of Walt Disney World itself. Built and now operated by Bronson Solar of Levy County and the Central Florida Tourism Supervisory Districtthe site is helping Disney diversify its solar energy purchasing into multiple areas of the Sunshine State.

Not only that, but Disney Parks and Resorts representatives say the new location makes a completely solar-powered Walt Disney World a reality.

“At Walt Disney World in Florida, four solar projects can now produce up to 100% of the entire resort’s daytime power needs on a sunny day in spring or summer – spanning four theme parks, two water parks, dozens of hotels and more,” the company says. “This new facility joins Walt Disney World’s favorite ‘Hidden Mickey’ solar panela 5,000-kilowatt installation in the shape of Mickey Mouse nearby EPCOTalong with other major solar projects throughout Florida.”

Allowing Disney World’s parks, hotels and outbuildings to run on solar energy would be equivalent to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 140,000 metric tons, the company says. That amount of energy could also power the company’s monorail system for 34 years.

Power Disney World and Disney Worldwide

The Walt Disney Company has made a point in recent years to transition to more renewable energy sources, with the company setting a lofty goal of net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2030. Disneyland Resort Anaheim, California, also has a 400 kW rooftop solar project operating, which the company says produces energy for its Radiator Springs Racers, based on the “Cars” movie franchise.

In addition to its U.S. solar installations, the entertainment giant has installed rooftop and carport solar systems at its three Asian locations in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

And in Europe, Disneyland Paris sports the largest awning factory on the continent. The enormous carport produces 36 GWh annually, covers over 11,200 parking spaces and produces enough energy to power a city of over 17,400 inhabitants.

The company has also brought its renewable energy installations to its cruise ships. Representatives say the company has two installations at its cruise destinations in the Bahamas, Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay. In total, the installations supply approximately 3.9 MW of solar energy.

But for now, the Florida locations may be the company’s largest installations yet.

“In total, Walt Disney World now has 212,000 kilowatts of solar capacity across four locations, with more than 600,000 solar panels – generating roughly enough energy to power more than 19,000 Florida homes for a year,” officials said. Disney experiences. “On a clear spring or summer day, these projects together can now produce up to 100% of the resort’s daytime power needs, supporting one of the largest vacation destinations in the world.”
