Solar Energy UK, the UK’s leading solar trade association, has reached a major milestone – reaching 400 members. This achievement reflects the accelerating growth of the industry and the organization’s success in supporting solar energy development. From its humble beginnings in 1978, Solar Energy UK has played a key role in driving innovation and favorable policies for the solar energy sector.

Solar Energy UK’s 400th member is solar energy distributor CCL Components. Managing director Paul Brooks said: “We are very pleased to be part of Solar Energy UK. This membership milestone reflects the association’s achievements in uniting the industry and the importance of its commitment to reaching 70 GW by 2035. We look forward to working with our colleagues and key industry stakeholders and exploring new opportunities to foster collaboration.”

This expansion of Solar Energy UK membership is in line with wider trends in the UK sustainable energy landscape. The organization has played a key role in government reforms in support of solar energy, such as reintroducing solar photovoltaics into Contracts for Difference auctions and improving planning rules for rooftops and solar farms, creating an enabling environment for the industry. The government’s ambitions for a net zero future have further fueled the development of solar energy and other renewable energy sources.

Stronger, more united

Ultimately, Solar Energy UK’s growth translates into a stronger, more united voice for solar energy in Britain. Unified representation is critical as the industry seeks to overcome challenges and navigate evolving regulatory frameworks. As the organization grows, so does its ability to effectively advocate for policies that support continued expansion and address potential roadblocks.

“Together we are transforming the energy sector and pushing the boundaries of innovation and efficiency. This isn’t just about numbers; it is about our collective commitment to a carbon-free future,” said Chris Hewett, CEO of Solar Energy UK, calling the milestone a “fantastic achievement”.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to each member for their invaluable contributions. Their hard work, innovation and collaboration have driven us to this remarkable achievement. Let us continue to harness the power of the sun and light the path to a better, cleaner future,” Hewett added.

The next big step for Solar Energy UK will be the imminent publication of the government and industry Solar Roadmap, which will further guide the drive towards the 70GW capacity target by 2035. The organization has championed the solar industry since its inception and advocated training, investment and career opportunities in the UK solar sector. His valuable work will be of great importance as Britain approaches the 2035 deadline.

Solar Power Portal’s publisher Solar Media will host the British Solar Summit on June 4 and 5, 2024 in London. The event will explore Britain’s new utility and rooftop solar landscape, look at the opportunities within a GW+ annual market, and much more. For more information, visit the website.
