Island Green Power’s proposed 480MW West Burton Solar Project has progressed to the next stage of development consent, with the Planning Inspectorate concluding its investigation.

The investigation concluded on May 8 and the Planning Inspectorate will pass on their advice on the project to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in early August. The State Secretary then has three months to make a decision.

If developed, the West Burton Solar Project would provide solar and energy storage on several plots in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, approximately 7.4km south and up to 14.6km south-east of Gainsborough in the West Lindsey District Council local authority. Below you will find the project plans.

The Nationally Important Infrastructure Project (NSIP) involves the construction of three power stations. Each station is expected to have a capacity of more than 50 MW and will consist of ground-mounted solar panels.

The associated development will include energy storage, grid connection infrastructure and other essential infrastructure required for the construction, operation and maintenance of the project.

Tara Sethi, Technical Director of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Major Infrastructure at Lanpro, who provided the planning, EIA and environmental expertise for the project, commented: “Lanpro has worked with Island Green Power to establish the West Burton Solar Project for three years.

“This substantial project has the potential to deliver affordable, clean energy to hundreds of thousands of homes across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. In doing so, the country can play an important role in achieving the country’s net zero target. We have had the privilege of working with Island Green Power and the Cottam solar projects on this, and we look forward to a successful outcome later this year.”
