ACCU price in focus as Rio plots the future of biofuels

Rio Tinto has urged the federal government to make crops grown for biofuel production eligible for Australian carbon credit units, while Canberra is calling on the private sector to propose its own eligibility criteria to earn these incentives .

Rio believes carbon-neutral biofuels will be the primary method to reduce emissions from mining trucks and trains before 2030, as electric and battery-powered fleets are not expected to be available or affordable this decade.
