Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has issued a tender for three PV factories for solar energy at three different airports in the country.

The three proposed projects will be located at Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.

The Tambo International Airport project includes the design and construction of a PV factory of 5,000 kW of solar energy. There is a separate maintenance contract for a period of 5 years.

There are extra plans for a battery -back system that is added at a later time, so the design of the PV factory of Tambo International Airport should allow this. The works of the factory will be at the land location of the airport and all contracting equipment and staff need permits.

The King Shaka International Airport project includes the installation of a 2,000 kW roof-mounted solar PV factory. It includes a five -year maintenance contract for the works, but this will be priced separately.

The contractor will be obliged to offer a training program for the approval of the engineer and the training program offers skills for the maintenance operators of the airport to operate and maintain the installation.

Finally, the tender for Cape Town International Airport is for the design and construction of a 2500 KW Solar PV factory. The contractor will have to be present to regularly improve the efficiency of the operation, because the technology is new to the airport. It requires continuous monitoring.

All details about the tender, including documentation and information about briefing sessions can be found at those of South Africa Online tendering portal or on ACSAs website. The tender number is Cor7739/2025/RFP.
