The AIT group of Germany has introduced residential ground-source heat pumps with less than 150 grams of propane, based on results from the Fraunhofer ISE LC150 research project. The new systems provide up to 6 kW heating with a seasonal performance coefficient of 5.14.

Ait-Group, a Heat Pump-based manufacturer, said that it started with selling two new types of ground-pure heat pump systems for residential use.

The new products are based on the results of the LC150 research project of Fraunhofer Isee. The team launched the project in 2020 to develop a standardized, refrigerant-reddued cooling circuit with the help of propane (R290) as a work fluid, in collaboration with heat pump manufacturers and suppliers.

Fraunhofer ISE developed prototypes with heat pump that only use 146 grams of propane to deliver a heating production of 11.4 kW. The specific coolant cargo was 12.8 grams per kW-Geneg to meet the needs of most single-family homes.

Propane -based heat pumps already exist, but most use about five times more coolant. Because propane is flammable, German law prohibits the installation of such systems in buildings if they exceed more than 150 grams of propane. Systems that meet this limit can be installed in cellars.

Ait-Group said it is the first industrial partner to bring reduced heat pumps based on LC150 findings for the maturity of the market.

The new models, Alpha Innotec WZSV 63 and Novelan WSV 6.3, offer a wide source temperature range from -13 C to 30 C. Ait-Group said that this makes it compatible with various renewable heating areas, including geothermal probes, groundwater, waste water, ice storage and photo-thermal).

Both units have a seasonal coefficient (SCOP) of 5.14 by 35 ° C and 3.96 by 55 C. They offer a heating capacity of 6 kW and a cooling capacity of 7.5 kW. The integrated hot water tank contains 178 liters.

The space -saving design focuses on single -family homes and multi -family homes. A separate cooling circuit module makes it easier to transport and shortens the installation time, especially in retrofit applications.

Ait-Group said that both models support the power temperatures up to 75 ° C and have electric anodes that reduce maintenance needs. Sound levels are assessed at 45 dB (A).

The systems are compatible with platforms for energy management from home and can be integrated with photovoltaic and energy storage systems, the company added.
