Renewable energy sources generated almost a third of the total American electric generation in April, with solar energy resulting in more than 10% of the total national output, according to an assessment of US Energy Information Administration (EIA) facts Through the Sun Day campaign.

The last monthly “Electric Power Monthly” report from EIA (with data up to and including 30 April 2025) confirms that Solar remains the fastest growing new source of American electricity.

In April alone, the electrical generation rose due to the solar scale on Utility scale (projects larger than 1 MW) by 39.3%, while the “estimated” small (roof projects) solar PV increased by 11.8%. Combined, they grew with 31.3% and provided 10.7% of the country’s electric output during the month.

Solar energy generated electricity surpassed the output of the water water power stations (6.0%). Solar now produces more electricity than hydropower, biomass and geothermal combined. Wind and solar energy now produce a fifth of the total American electrical generation-out-producing coal and nuclear energy.

During the first four months of 2025, by Wind Plus Nutschart and small-scale solar-sun energy, 20.3% of the American total, an increase of 18.5% during the first four months of 2024, offered solar energy and wind for almost a fourth (24.6%) of the total American electrical output.

During the first four months of this year, wind and solar energy offered 20.2% more electricity than coal, and 13.8% more than the country’s nuclear power stations.

Electric generation Due to the combination of all renewable energy sources in only the month of April, a new record reached and offered almost a third (32.8%) of the total American electric generation. Renewable energy sources are now approaching the share supplied by natural gas (35.1%) of which the electric output decreased by 4.4% during the month.

In April 2020, the mix of renewable energy sources provided 24.4% of the total electrical generation, while natural gas was good for 38.8%. A decade ago, renewable energy sources provided 16.7% of the total generation, while natural gas supplied 31.5%; The majority of the balance was justified by coal (30.3%) and nuclear energy (20.4%).

“Solar is the fastest growing main source of electricity and generates more than hydropower, biomass and geothermal energy, while Wind plus Zonne-Zon offers more electricity than coal or nuclear energy and the mix of all renewable energy sources almost corresponds to the output of Natural Campaign. “Nevertheless, the Trump government and the Republican Congress try to get the rug under the renewable energy sources in favor of dirty and more expensive fossil fuels and nuclear technologies. What do they think?”
