Industrial activities of Amphenola specialist in the field of interconnect systems, introduced his RadCrimp for 8~6 American Wire Gage (AWG), as the latest installment in its series of solar split connectors. The new product, developed in collaboration with Melni Technologiesis designed to improve the reliability of field crimping while reducing errors directly related to improper crimping of cables.

RadCrimp from Amphenol.

“Properly crimping solar connectors can require a lot of precision work and can lead to costly and dangerous failures if installed even slightly incorrectly,” said Mark Cunningham, GM of Amphenol. “The RadCrimp eliminates the concerns and potential hazards associated with connector installation. Our product gives solar operators the peace of mind that their solar energy system is safely equipped with high-quality connectors that are not at risk of failure or decay.”

Amfenol’s RadCrimp series is made for new solar PV installations, field retrofits and solar installation repairs, and all other field terminations that require a reliable, sealed power connection.

The RadCrimp eliminates the crimping process and the need for specialized crimping tools, using patented Dual Helix Spiral Termination technology. RadCrimp is certified to UL 6703 and IEC 62852 standards for 1500 VDC, making it suitable for high-voltage solar applications.

It is compatible with a range of photovoltaic wire sizes, from 8 AWG (50A) to 6 AWG (65A) and 12 AWG (20A) to 10 AWG (30A), making it suitable for a variety of solar installations and configurations. The RadCrimp has an IP68 seal, which protects connectors against dust ingress and immersion in water.
