Solar energy developer and independent power producer (IPP) Ampyr Solar Europe (ASE) has announced the acquisition of a 400 MW solar power plant.
ASE will acquire the East Yorkshire Solar Farm (EYSF) from BOOM Power, which obtained development consent (DCO) for the project in 2011. May 2025. It will be connected to the electricity grid via a substation at the Drax Power Station.
The solar power plant will be located between the hamlet of Gribthorpe, the villages of Spaldington and Wressle and the town of Howden, covering a total area of 1,445 hectares.
Buffer zones and screen vegetation reduce the visual impact, while existing hedgerows are preserved. The development includes the creation of wildlife habitats such as grassland and woodland, and a large area adjacent to the River Foulness is included within the order limits to support wintering bird species.
ASE CEO Tarun Agrawal noted that EYSF is now the largest project in ASE’s “growing” portfolio of PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Mark Hogan, founder of BOOM Power, which has developed the project to date, said the flagship power plant “reflects years of detailed development work, collaboration and commitment”.
He added that BOOM will remain “actively involved” in the project through construction and energy supply, which is scheduled for 2029.
The news comes days later BOOM Power has announced that it has received a DCO for another nationally significant solar infrastructure project (NSIP)the 237.5 MW Fenwick solar power plant.
