Stem and Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO), in partnership with Prometheus Power, announced the successful deployment of a co-located storage and solar project to help deliver clean, reliable power to its distribution cooperatives and public power members.

The project for Sulfur Springs Valley Electric Co-op (SSVEC), an AEPCO member cooperative, includes a 40 MWh energy storage system and an existing 20 MW photovoltaic system that will integrate Athena, Stem’s AI-powered clean energy software . to continuously operate and monitor the storage system for maximum performance on a single, unified platform. The SSVEC project is the first of three implementations of similar scale on which Stem will collaborate with Prometheus to provide Stem’s services to AEPCO’s other managing cooperatives. All three projects are expected to come online at the end of this year.

“More than 900 electric cooperatives in 48 states form the largest electric grid in the US. This segment is forecast to be one of the fastest growing segments of the front-of-the-meter (FTM) market through the end of the month. this decade and is expected to represent more than 20% of all future storage deployments,” said John Carrington, CEO of Stem. “Stem’s unique combination of AI-powered software, hardware and services enables improved value and project returns at scale for cooperatives and their members. We are excited to bring our proven capabilities and market experience to AEPCO and their members.”
