The recording on the roof of the sun on the roof on the roof continued to rise in 2024, with a new report that revealed more than 300,000 PV systems with a combined capacity of almost 3 GW, were installed on the roofs of houses and companies throughout the country in 2024.

New figures from the Clean Energy Council (CEC) show that 300,375 Australian houses and companies in 2024 were installed on the roof sun roof and delivered almost 3 GW of PV capacity. This includes 159.011 PV systems on the roof with a combined capacity of 1.6 GW installed in the last six months of the year.

The CEC said it is the fifth consecutive year that installation figures have surpassed 300,000 units with more than Four million PV systems on the roof And a cumulative total capacity of 25.5 GW of solar energy on the roof now throughout the country.

The biennial of the CEC Solar and Storage Report on the roof Shows PV on the roof wore 30,178 GWh, or 12.4%, of the total energy generation of Australia for 2024, an increase of 11.2% in 2023, and almost doubled from 6.5% in 2020.

While the year supplied considerable milestones for solar energy on the roof, the annual installation percentage was 10% lower than the previous year when 333,926 units were rolled out, while the total installed capacity of almost 3 GW was 7% lower on the 3.2 GW installed in 2023.

New South Wales was at the forefront with the highest installed capacity of each state in 2024, at 952 MW. Queensland (800 MW) and Victoria (582 MW) came in second and third place respectively.

The report is displayed The installations of household batteries increased Implemented by 74,582 units in 2024, compared to 46.127 in 2023. The annual total included 45,233 home batteries sold in the second half of last year, an increase of 55% in the same period the year before.

New South Wales was at the forefront with the most sale of home battery in 2024 with 14,686 installations for the year, followed by Victoria (10,996) and Queensland (8,555).

185,798 home batteries have now been installed in Australia, but CEC General Manager of Distributed Energy Con Hristodoulidis said that only 28.4% of the installation of solar energy was linked to a small-scale battery by the end of 2024.

Hristodoulidis said that the result indicates the continuous potential for further admission and reinforces the importance of setting up a national battery discount scheme.

The CEC last year called on the federal government To introduce a home battery -saver program, that would say that the missing piece of the [policy] puzzle.”

The organization for clean energy said that such a program would considerably reduce the annual energy bills for individual households and companies and at the same time reduce the system -wide costs for all energy users in 2030 by $ 190 million.

“Batteries integrated in the grid (also known as orchestration or virtual power plants) have the extra advantage that they deliver electricity to the grid when it is most needed, reduce costs and create a more resilient energy system,” said Hristodoulidis.

Modeling by the CEC shows a national discount of up to $ 6,500 per household, could deliver another 410,000 small -scale batteries in houses and small companies by 2050, equal to 2,054 MW installed capacity from storage on the National Electricity Market (NEM).
