The UK Planning Inspectorate (PINS) yesterday (December 3) announced government approval for a 190MW ground-mounted solar PV installation in North Yorkshire. The Helios Renewable Energy Project is considered a Nationally Important Infrastructure Project (NSIP) due to its size and was submitted to PINS by Enso Green Holdings in July 2024. Enso Green Holdings is a joint venture between British developer Enso Energy and European IPP Cero Generation. In addition to 190 MW of solar energy, the Helios project will feature a battery energy storage system (BESS), the capacity of which has not been disclosed; Solar energy portal has contacted the developers for…
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) has developed a new way to quantify self-PV consumption in Germany using data from the national register and the grid operator, amid a steady increase in on-site use as installations and storage capacity increase. December 4, 2025 Sandra Enkhardt By pv magazine Germany Given the high costs of electricity in Germany, PV system operators see the value of directly consuming solar energy generated or storing it in battery systems. Fraunhofer ISE has developed a new method to estimate the level of own photovoltaic consumption. Self-consumption of solar energy is an important…
The Tunisian government says concession and authorization frameworks are promoting multiple PV projects, while new entrants including SoleCrypt are planning additional factories, increasing capacity, self-generation and panel imports. December 4, 2025 Gwénaëlle Deboutte By pv magazine France After years of delays, Tunisia is accelerating the rollout of its large-scale photovoltaic (PV) sector. The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy said construction projects are making tangible progress under both the concession and authorization frameworks, which structure large-scale solar development based on capacity. Under the concession regime, reserved for projects of more than 10 MW, the first tender for 500 MW in…
The British energy regulator gives the green light to the budgets of transmission network operators for a period of five years. Initial budget of GBP 10.3 billion ($13.7 billion) approved with a cap of GBP 70 billion in transmission investments by 2031. At least GBP 44 billion in transmission spending has already been committed, according to the regulator. December 4, 2025 Matthew Lynas Ofgem has approved budgets for a multi-billion pound investment in Britain’s electricity and gas networks, as part of the next revenue framework for transmission network operators (TNO). The regulator predicts that spending on transmission upgrades could reach…
