On November 14, more than fifty Republicans in the House of Representatives in the conservative caucus sent a letter to the Commerce Department. Howard Lutnick asks the department to stop importing Chinese solar inverters. Republicans expressed concern about the situation in May 2025 Reuters report that has found fraudulent communications equipment in some Chinese solar inverters that is not listed in the product documents. “The integration of critical grid technologies, such as large-scale solar and battery inverters, from foreign entities of concern poses unacceptable risks to national security, the economy and the supply chain,” the letter said. The new Foreign…

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, one of the few senior US political leaders to attend this year’s UN climate summit, told AFP on Friday that President Donald Trump’s America is “intentionally” losing the race against China in clean technology. The 70-year-old lawmaker said he came to Belem, Brazil, to underscore that Trump’s aggressive pro-fossil fuel policies “do not represent the American people” — and that the United States is losing huge economic opportunities. “Right now we are deliberately losing our competition in solar energy, wind energy, battery storage, electric vehicles and all the supporting technologies that go with them,” he said in…

China’s largest solar maker is trying to escape shrinking margins by securing 62% voting control of a fast-growing storage integrator. November 17, 2025 Vincent Shaw By ESS news Longi has taken a decisive step to reposition itself in the global clean energy value chain, gaining effective control of battery storage producer PotisEdge, in a deal that marks its strongest strategic pivot since becoming the world’s largest solar wafer producer. A filing published on November 13 by the Shaanxi Administration for Market Regulation shows that the company will acquire approximately 62% (61.9998%) of PotisEdge’s voting rights through a mix of share…
BESS owner-operator BW ESS has partnered with Associated British Ports (ABP) Southampton to build a grid-scale project on a brownfield site. The battery energy storage system (BESS) will be built on a seven-hectare site at Marchwood Industrial Park following planning approval by New Forest District Council. The buildings at the Marchwood Industrial Park have reached the end of their economic life and no longer meet modern energy efficiency or sustainability standards, ABP said. BW ESS and ABP will enter into a long-term lease for the project, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2028. The site is…
Germany is preparing to relax planning rules for battery, heat and hydrogen storage systems built outside urban areas. November 17, 2025 Sandra Enkhardt By ESS news German policy has become simpler for large-scale storage projects with new laws supporting simpler planning rules for non-urban areas. The German Parliament (Bundestag) has now approved an amendment to the law that would classify battery, heat and hydrogen storage as privileged developments in non-urban areas under Section 35 of the Federal Construction Act. The change is intended to simplify the zoning plans and speed up implementation. Although the measure has passed a crucial legislative…

A Spanish research team demonstrated a broadband anti-reflective coating for gallium arsenide solar cells. Based on thermally oxidized gallium nanoparticles, the nanostructured coating reduced reflectance by 30% across the solar spectrum and increased solar cell performance by 10%. November 17, 2025 Valerie Thompson Researchers led by a team from Spain’s Technical University of Madrid (ISOM-UPM) have demonstrated a broadband anti-reflective coating (ARC) for gallium arsenide-based solar cells. The nanostructured coating was based on thermally oxidized gallium nanoparticles. “Unlike conventional plasmonic metallic nanoparticles that can cause parasitic absorption, the fully oxidized gallium oxide nanoparticles (GaxOy-NPs) preserve the nanoparticle morphology and act…
